Welcome to Early Years

Foundations at Ashwood Park: Our Early Years Unit
At Ashwood Park, our Preschool (Nursery) and Reception classes work together as a Foundation Stage Unit, providing a welcoming, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, play and grow together.
We believe that strong relationships, purposeful play and high-quality teaching are the foundations of a successful early years experience. By working closely together, our staff team creates a consistent approach to learning, ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential.
Learning Together, Growing Together
Our children are organised into family groups, bringing together children from Preschool and Reception. These groups help to build a strong sense of belonging and community, encouraging children to develop friendships, learn from one another and build positive relationships with both adults and peers.
Throughout the week, children have opportunities to learn and play together through child-initiated learning, where they can follow their interests, explore ideas, develop independence and discover new skills. Alongside this, planned teaching sessions take place separately for Preschool and Reception children. This ensures that teaching is carefully matched to each age group, their developmental stage and their individual learning needs.
An Environment Designed for Every Child
Our shared learning environment is carefully organised to meet the needs of children across the full Foundation Stage age range. It provides opportunities for exploration, creativity, problem-solving and collaboration, with resources and activities that support children at different stages of development.
Our experienced staff work closely together to plan learning, share knowledge of the children and ensure that interactions, provision and teaching reflect the principles of effective Early Years practice. Through warm relationships, high expectations and a balance of purposeful teaching and play, we aim to give every child the best possible start to their school journey.
Session Times
We offer flexible options for our Preschool children, alongside the full Reception school day.
  • Preschool – 15 hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am–11:45am (five mornings per week).
  • Preschool – 30 hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am–3:15pm. An additional charge applies for the half-hour lunch period.
  • Reception: Monday to Friday, 8:45am–3:15pm.
By bringing Preschool and Reception together as one Foundation Stage Unit, we provide a connected and supportive early years experience, helping children develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning as they take their next steps towards school.

We warmly welcome prospective parents and carers to visit Ashwood Park, meet our friendly team and explore our wonderful Early Years environment.
